El Comic en Guatemala

Hola,

Mantenganse Creando y Creativos.

Batman Redesign

Hey everyone,

This is a redesign I did last week.  I saw the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman so I decided to make the redesign.  I was inspired by the concept of a gothic batman.  More literally gothic haha.  I saw this image online of a guy wearing a mask, a cloak, and more gothic fashion.  I am very happy with how this came out.  The movie on the other hand haha, that is a whole different story.  I am not impressed by what they have done so far.  But I guess it is something that has happened in the last few I've seen.  Civil War was great but I feel I liked Winter Soldier more.  I didn't see X-men Apocalypse and it doesn't really bother me.  I don't know if I am getting tired of all these super hero movies coming out.  There's only so many times the world can be in peril in one calendar year.  Deadpool was awesome though.

Rooster Rumble Fight Club on Comixology

Hey everyone,

Just writing to let you know that my graphic novel Rooster Rumble Fight Club is now available for purchase at comixology.com  You can find it here:  http://bit.ly/1XCdtMK This is a very awesome thing.  It is the first book I submit to comixology and it was approved after a couple of months or so.  I hope loads of people can check it out and that they enjoy it.  It is in the Indie section.
I haven't started on my next project.  I have been busy trying to stabilize my freelance artist situation.  I have been sketching versions of the main character almost non-stop.  I want to create something I am happy with as I am figuring out the final design of the main character.  It is also helping me define some story elements.
I will post an update once I have some information to share.  For now, make sure to check out Rooster Rumble Fight Club.

Superman Redesign

Hey everyone,

This is a quick redesign I did of the Man of Steel.  It is not so over the top but I am happy with how it came out.  I am attaching the video of the making of process.  I enjoy redesigning characters very much.  I have to make the time to be able to do it.  It is better than doing fan art to me because I have to reinterpret the character and see him/her under a different light.  I was constantly thinking of the concept "Super Alpha Man" as I worked on this piece.  Hope you like it and let me know in the comments if there's any character you'd like me to redesign.

The Legend of Zelda - Warrior Princess

Hey everyone,

I just joined the Character Design Challenge group on facebook.  It is a fantastic source of reference for character designers.  I love character design and I look to learn as much as I can in the field.  This will be an amazing group to be a part of and I am sure I will learn a lot.

Their topic right now is based on redesigning The Legend of Zelda characters.

I decided to redesign the princess.  I was inspired by the Lone Wolf and Cub concept.  I haven't seen the movie or read the story but I thought it would be appropriate.
I envision Zelda like a wondering lone warrior.  She stumbles upon this abandoned baby (Link) on the road and for reasons even unknown to her, decides to take care of him.
I also wanted to play on the idea or concept of the "legend" of Zelda.  There are stories about this famous warrior.  I want to learn more about her.
I envisioned a great fighter but one that still has motherly instincts.  Like Cool Runnings says - A badass mother.

I had loads of fun working on it.  Hope you like it.

Rooster Rumble Fight Club graphic novel

Hey everyone,

Today, March 1st, I released my first graphic novel.  It is now known as Rooster Rumble Fight Club.  It's in english and it is 206 pages long.  It includes bonus content like Alternate ending, Creator Commentary Track, Page thumbnail sketches, and a How to design your RRFC member video tutorial.  It is available in iBooks and Gumroad.   You can also find a link to it on the top right of this site at the Buy my graphic novel button.

What is it about?

Gamekocks from all over the world come to compete for honor, glory and legacy.  This is the story of Jonny, a young and inexperienced fighter who wants to join the club and become the champ.  He travels to the Big City to find McCluck, a veteran fighter who has lost his direction.  After two fighters mysteriously go missing, Jonny and McCluck soon discover the horrible truth behind The Rooster Rumble Fight Club.  It is an action-filled story with great characters that is about the fight to redeem a heart filled with empty promises.  What do you fight for?

It was one of the hardest projects I have ever done.  I thank God for giving me the resilience to finish it.  I almost quit a few times during the process but the idea would not leave me alone as I worked on other things.  I tried to rush through it a few times but that was not to be.

I can only say that it is worth fighting for your dreams.  If you have an idea for a story you want to create, don't waste time wondering if it is going to sell or if people will like it.  You can never know. There are no formulas for this thing.  There are rules and guidelines but these can be bent or broken to serve you better.  Make your own rules.  Tell a story that you would love to hear and that you feel others should hear.  You will learn a lot during the process and you will get the confidence to take on bigger and harder challenges.

If you want to create your own comics or graphic novels, the only advice I can give you is, start small.  Start with that particular scene you have in your head.  Start working out how the scene will start.  Sketch it out.  You will come up with better ideas as you work it out.

Cause the most wonderful thing about working on your own projects is figuring it out.  Coming up to an obstacle and figuring out how to get around it.

I wish you the best of luck with your projects and that you can see them through to the end.
Take care and God bless.

Sketcheronline on Instagram

Hey everyone,

I recently created an Instagram account where I will post sketches you will not see anywhere else. They are those tiny sketches I make in my sketchbook as I work out ideas for character designs.  I love exploring in a small scale before I make the leap to larger scale.  I fill up the page with ideas and doodles that overlap each other.  It's pretty chaotic but it makes sense to me :)
Make sure to follow me on Instagram to check them out.

Catwoman Redesign

This is a quick sketch I did of my take on Catwoman.  I envisioned Selina Kyle with platinum blonde hair in a rustic made-at-home costume.  She is a top fashion model that moonlights as a cat burglar who steals things just for the thrill of it.  I wanted it to be unexpected like Bruce Wayne.  I did this sketch because I had this idea for a while now.  I have attached some exploratory sketches I did as I figured it out.  I also found a pic of a german model called Lena Gercke that inspired me to create this.  I have also attached the making of video.  Hope you like it.

Quetzal Cuate

Hey everyone,

This is a piece I created to commemorate the independence day of my country, Guatemala.  I created this quetzal;  his named Quetzal Cuate.  He sells shucos (guatemalan hot dogs) cotton candy, sweets, flags, mobile protectors, etc.  He works hard and kicks butt.  I had intended to include him in the Rooster Rumble Fight Club Graphic Novel but I didn't manage to make it work.
Hope you like it.

How to break your Creative Block with @sketchdailies

Hey everyone,

This is a video I made where I explain one of the techniques I use to break a creative block.  Creative blocks are terrible and inevitable sometimes but there are different tricks or exercises you can attempt to help you get out of the creative rut you might be in.  I use this group called Sketch Dailies on twitter.  They post daily topics that artists from all over the world interpret in their own unique way. It is very inspirational and it makes you want to get a pencil and draw.  This exercise will be a small step towards a new creative spark but if you stick with it, you will start to develop more confidence and you will see an improvement in your art as well.  Make sure to follow @sketchdailies on twitter.

Gamekocks Assemble - Age of Ultron - Making of + Review

Hey everyone,

This is a parody piece I created based on the Avengers Age of Ultron movie that came out a few weeks ago.  I made this piece for the Xpo ComiCon held in Guatemala a few days ago.  I have seen the movie twice and I liked it more the second time.  I have also added the making of video to show the process.  Hope you like it.

Bruno Diaz es...

Hey everyone,

I have been a Batman fan ever since I was a kid.  I got hooked with the movies and the animated series.  I am not big on the comics though.  The inspiration for this piece was that Bruce Wayne in spanish is Bruno Diaz.  I don't know why cause all the other heroes have their names in english (Peter Parker, Clark Kent, etc) So I decided to go with that and set Batman in a hispanic setting.  He is known as El Hombre Murciélago and he fights crime in Ciudad Gótica.  I have included some exploration sketches.  You can see my take on Bruno without the costume.  I also did a sketch of his butler Alfredo.  I had fun with this piece.  I started working on El Comodin (Joker) sketches but I am still working through my ideas.  Hope you like it.

Rooster Rumble Fight Club Parodies

Hey everyone,

These are some images I worked on a few weeks ago.  I did parody pieces of IPs of some of my favorite artists.  I have collected all the parody pieces I have created in my behance portfolio found here .  I shared these with the artists who inspired me and most of them were cool enough to reply.  I enjoy doing these cause it's great practice to put these other IP's and concepts through the RRFC Prism.
I will be focusing on the third part of the graphic novel in the next few days.  I will post some of the thumbnails I have created soon.  Hope you like these.

Rooster Rumble Fight Club - Concept art images

Hey everyone,

Here are some images I created a while ago to show how the Rooster Rumble Fight Club fighting game could look.  The first images I created focused more on the stance and design of each character.  These focus more on showing action as well as some funny expressions for the characters.  I am still working on the second part of the graphic novel.  I have some pages to color and finish as well as add the dialogue.  Stay tuned.

The Riddler Redesign

Hey everyone,

This is a redesign I did last week for Sketch Dailies.  I took the opportunity to be more bold in regards to the redesign by taking the classic look for the Riddler and changing him to a blind, sharply dressed black man.  He is the exact same character, the only difference is his skin color and where he comes from.  I envisioned him to be of french descent.  I made a video describing the process of creation.  Hope you like it.

Overwatch - Balam

Hey everyone,

Every now and then I like to go on the sketchtheatre forums to check out the theme of the monthly contest to either get some practice or just do some fun art for me.  This month's theme was to create either fan art or your own character for the upcoming game from Blizzard called Overwatch.  It's this sci-fi first person shooter game that looks really awesome and fun to play.  So this got my creative juices flowing and a started working on some thumbnails of the type of character I wanted to create.  I have created several jaguar warriors in my day so I decided that this character would fit in this world for some reason.  I got a thumbnail I liked and I drew it on a larger piece of Bristol paper.  I had a hard time finishing up the large scale sketch but when I finally did, I added some ink to the piece.  I've been working more and more with traditional media in the last month or so.  I had some time this afternoon so I decided to color the character.  I would have loved to color it with markers but I haven't gotten them yet.  Hopefully, I'll get them for my birthday.  The coloring took some time as there was some exploration involved but I feel I finally arrived to something I am very happy with.  Hope you like it.  I'd love to see this character kicking butt in the game.
